Birthday Salutations for Edgar Allen Poe
The world knows him as the Master of the Macabre. There are many avid readers of his work that recognize him as the Father of the Detective Story also. I recognize him as having been a great pioneer which possessed much creative genius and skill. Yet much like Van Gogh
, his passion and lust for life so to say, was so often times refuted and misunderstood.
Many of us can relate to this. I myself, most certainly can… And when I was visiting his former home
and resting place
(in Baltimore, MD) with a friend this past summer, a great sense of humility overcame me. I was sincerely moved by just how one’s desire to express can be such a gift and become cherished by so many… Even in death. This was how the story was to unfold for our beloved Edgar Allen Poe
Whether you consider yourself an incel, oddball or misfit, give yield to these notions before claiming a space to exalt your place in “Weirdom.” Those that are truly the square pegs do not wish to be perceived this way. Something intrinsic merely urges them through life with the propensity to think far outside the box and often times, ahead of their time.
This was very much the case, circumstance, situation and fate for dear old Edgar Allan Poe. Despite the odd twists and mysterious turns which wielded his rather short life into immortality, there was an intense romanticism which gave charge to his brilliant body of work and engulfed his very soul.
So, on this nineteenth day of January, 2020… I implore you to remember The Raven
, the man himself, Edgar Allan Poe
and with respect, let us bid him Happy Birthday.
