Baylor posted two of the seven no-hitters so far in the 2017 NCAA tournament.
We haven’t even started super regional play, and Baylor already notched two no-hitters in the 2017 DI Softball Championship.
With those two, sophomore Gia Rodoni etched her name in the NCAA tournament history books after tallying two no-hitters in the Waco regional. She’s the first pitcher to throw two no-hitters in the same tournament.
But the Lady Bears weren't the only team to post a no-no this weekend. So far in regional play, there have been an incredible seven no-hitters.
Here’s a look at each of them:
Florida vs. Florida A&M

In only the second-ever postseason no-hitter for Florida, senior Delanie Gourley tossed the first one of the tournament. The first time Florida ever posted a no-hitter in the postseason was 2014, and that game was thrown by—guess who? Delanie Gourley, who was a freshman. Interestingly enough, that 2014 game was also against Florida A&M.
Louisiana vs. McNeese

In only the third postseason no-hitter for the Ragin’ Cajuns, senior Alex Stewart stepped up to the mound and collected her first career no-hitter. She joined Cheryl Longeway (1995) and Brooke Mitchell (2003) in accomplishing the feat for Louisiana during the NCAA tournament.

Throughout Baylor softball history, the Lady Bears posted only 21 no-hitters, and not a single one was ever in postseason play—until the opening round of the Waco regional. Rodoni pitched a perfect game through the sixth and secured her first career no-hitter and the program’s first in an NCAA tournament game.

While UCLA is accustomed to no-hitters (15 in post-season, 109 overall), redshirt freshman Rachel Garcia hurled her first in the Bruins’ regional opener on Friday. UCLA invoked the mercy rule in this game after Garcia struck out eight players in five innings.
Washington vs. Montana

Sophomore Taran Alvelo threw her first career no-hitter in five innings in Washington’s regional opener. It was the first time in four years that the Huskies posted a post-season no-hitter. Both were 8-0 wins that ended in the fifth inning.
Michigan vs. Fresno State

For only the second time in post-season program history, Senior Megan Besta threw a no-hitter to stay alive in the Seattle regional. Michigan bounced back behind her 13-strikeout performance. The no-hitter was her third this season and the sixth of her career.

After posting her first career no-hitter earlier in the tournament, Rodini shocked the region and spun another to add to her resume. She helped the Lady Bears punch their first ticket since 2014 to the super regionals. As a thank you, her teammates celebrated by giving her a water-bucket dunking in the outfield at the conclusion of the game.
