Carrillo was born in San Jose, California. He is the son of John Joseph Carrillo and Janette Colleen Carrillo. His mother is white, and his father, originally from Los Angeles, is Mexican.[13][14] Carrillo attended public school from kindergarten to 3rd grade, then was placed in a very notable and "special" education program by the San Jose Unified School District due to being exceptionally gifted and talented.
