Exclusive: An Interview With Electro/Pop Rock Artist Sterling Infinity

By: Kat Harlton

Sterling Infinity’s music combines electronic soul and synth rock in a way that’s reminiscent of the greatest performers. The charismatic singer has garnered comparisons to everyone including Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Steven Tyler, Queen front-man Freddie Mercury, and glittery star-blazer himself David Bowie.

Sterling Infinity is set to announce himself to the music world through his newest album, Sterling Infinity (Deluxe), on July 20th.

Until then, Sterling has released his newest single, #Hypnotized (Pyramid Black Remix), showcasing his songwriting abilities and star studded vocals.

We caught up with the artist to discuss musical inspiration, songwriting and what’s next.

Kat: Could you talk about the inspiration behind your single #Hypnotized (Pyramid Black Remix)?

SI: It was inspired by my ex-girlfriend and how we met in a New York City night club. I ran into the bathroom and started writing the lyrics down on the wall with my eyeliner and I took a picture of the lyrics and sent it to her. Everything played out like the song.

Kat: What is your songwriting process like?

SI: It’s the small things that inspire me. I might experience something or someone, or hear a word, and it makes a melody. People’s energies remind me of melodies constantly moving in-between each other. Once I hear a melody, then the song writes itself; its all about experiencing.

Kat: Could you speak a little on your musical idols or role models?

SI: Prince is one of my heroes. I learned how to sow my spirituality into my music from him. making music has become a form of prayer to me. David Bowie taught me the value of being myself through the struggles of being a musician and finding confidence in my music and talent and having the strength to be my authentic self. I appreciate them for changing my life. I find father figures in their artistry.

Kat: Have you ever been given any advice in regard to your music career that you felt you really connected with or made an impact?

SI: Yes, I’m working on that now. Someone recently told me to enjoy the small moments. I come from a small town called Alton, Illinois. A lot of kids from this town don’t get to leave or have the opportunities to follow their dreams, so it’s important to me to keep in mind where I come from and find happiness in what is occurring in the moment. Not to always be focused on the stresses of the next goal or the next achievement, but to appreciate the space that I am currently in and find happiness in that.

Kat: What’s on your playlist right now?

SI: Right now I’m playing the Eurythmics. They actually inspired one of my songs called “Put Me In Your Mouth”. It’s one of my favorite songs on my album because it is very fun and honest.

Kat: What’s next for you, as far as your career?

SI: I am currently promoting my album “Sterling Infinity (Deluxe), which will be released on July 20th.
